A short history of how ten German Sisters from the Congregation of the Poor Child Jesus came to Southam in 1876 and had a major impact on the town and its people over the course of the next 150 years. The Sisters had been expelled from their native Germany as part of the Kulturkampf in the late 19th Century and had moved to a new Mother House at Simpelveld in the Netherlands before they were invited to come to Southam to look after a number of orphans. They became world famous for their clerical embroidery work which was a major focus for them here in Southam and a significant source of revenue for many years.
